<< It's in AMD's interest to support its chipset partners until AMD gains a sizable market share. In the near term (until Q2'01?), without any considerable market share, AMD has to play a proactive role in nurturing its external partners. A sizable market share in the future will absolve AMD from this necessity / obligation. >>

The laws of supply and demand should handle that automatically, if the 760 is priced cheap enough they won't be able to make enough, and people will have to buy the via chipset. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to try and give them more market share, because they haven't proven that they will deliver.

<< Also, it's in AMD's best interest to leave consumer segment to its partners, and push the first tier oems for corporate skus based on AMD760. This will allow AMD to gain more CPU market share, which is far more important rather than gaining the chipset market share. It'd be a win-win situation for AMD, and its partners. >>

I don't see how that will really get us any more corporate SKUs. Make the chipsets available to first tier guys first by all means, and if we don't have any others left over, then let via handle all the consumer chipsets, but we've failed 2 quarters in a row because of problems with via, and I for one would much rather not have it be 3 quarters in a row.
