Maybe Solon will explain it to you. He seemed to have a pretty good take on it.

I would be the last one in the world to be a fly in the ointment, but maybe all the successful criminals (the ones not in prison ) are atheists. Nah, that couldn't be. But really, someone who is an atheist doesn't have an out. If you screw up here on Earth, that's it. There is no redemption, confession or being born again. You are screwed... Saying "I'm sorry" doesn't cut it for most people. You've burned a bridge when you've wronged someone.

So just to be a Devil's advocate, it could be that on issues of morality, the atheist must choose to be anti-social and not care about ANY consequence because all consequences are here on Earth, whereas a believer could be bad now due to circumstances and explain their way out in the afterlife. It is a plausible explanation for the data.
