They have just looked at the consensus estimate for FY 01 earnings of $4.00 or so, and said "Yeah, we can do that". The market completely ignores the fact that the Broadband and Wireless buildouts are just infrastructure to promote the consumption of silicon at rates never before imagined. Did you see the projection for DSP consumption in this week's Barron's article on Texas Instruments? Silly big numbers. And we don't yet have a clue about entirely new devices that will be developed to take advantage of all this connectivity. But they will all eat chips of one flavor or another.
