Jmac..I think your arguments are perfectly valid. And whether we get a full blown recession remains to be seen. And maybe Greenspan did blow it...but he doesn't have a lot of tools to work with. Maybe being an incrementalist was his fault. Perhaps he should have popped the bubble in October 1999 with a slammer, one time huge discount and fed funds hike right then and there, before the markets hit the stratosphere 6 months later. Anyway, all the economic arguments are over my head. Not that listening to Greenspeak is that easy either and I can be as deaf as the next guy; all I know is that he did send out some warnings and it is far better to be long JDSU down here than UP there..
