OT - The Eisenhower administration took care of McCarthy. Contra folks got into trouble too. We clean up our
messes - where are you?

The last mess is the one we remember most--in this case Clinton excesses. Both parties have mixed records. Much time elapsed before McCarthy and Nixon got their due. If Gore becomes President he might actually be ethical. Many politicians clean up their act when the hold the highest office. Most of the sleaze comes in the campaign and that's an institutional problem that McCain Feingold tries to address. How come Bush opposes that bill? BTW it looks like Congress just frittered away the surplus for election year expediency. Oh well!
