gdr, all the vocal opponents of saddam have either been killed or are currently being totured. you know what he did when he came to power, right? he stood up in the parliament, for lack of a better term, and started reading names. each iraqi representative whos name was on the list was killed. talk about setting the tone for a new administration! these were iraqi leaders! they weren't israelis (sp???). saddam just didn't like 'em so he killed 'em. probably tortured some for a good long time. probably tortured family members, too. the guy is evil and he is the ROOT CAUSE of the children starving in iraq. saddam could go a long way to improving the lives of those children IF HE WANTED TO. heck, probably most of them are kurds and now he can save his poison gas to kill other people! one can choose to debate whether us and other responses to this EVIL regime is correct or incorrect, optimal or suboptimal. but to say that the u.s. is starving these children b/c poor saddam is allied with the palestinians is ABSURD! 100s of millions of people are allied with the palestinians and their children have food to eat. the palestinians have legitimate gripes. why should they stand around and watch their people being killed in the double digits by israel - for throwing rocks! why is israel stooping so low? it is CLEAR israel doesn't respect palestinian lives. i don't condone what the palestinians did to those soldiers (neither do i condone what israel is doing to rock throwers). however, if military was killing my flesh and blood for throwing rocks, i'd be livid, too. hopefully i'd express it in a better way - but you never know. this is a REAL issue. saddam acts like a DEVIL. hitler would understand saddam's mentality all too well. if saddam thought world domination was in reach, he'd be plotting it out now. i'm sorry, but no matter how desperate i become, i hope that i never make a deal w/ the DEVIL - even if she looks as good as liz hurley! ;-)
