I do not know about the legal stuff you need to provide, but let me get the situation straight - You basically want the two positions to cancel out, right?

Why not just go down the path of least resistance - close both positions individually. If you play your cards right, you will cover the cost of the two commissions and make a profit if you can buy to cover near the bid and sell near ask (you didn't mention the stock, so I don't know if this is likely

The notary said she cant notarize anything but legal documents and my handwritten letter of authorization wouldnt cut it. And of course she wouldnt even notarize the power of attorney.

Go to any other notary in the United States. A notary is certifying only that s/he saw you sign the paper. I've had several things I've printed out that weren't "legal documents" notarized.
