you ask a big question, but you provide no details.

what have you tried? what are your system specs?

how often do you do system maintenance?

Not exactly a speedup, but can have similar results ...

Turn off your browser's graphics, animation, and sound. Requiring less data transfer will have the same effect as handing the same heavy workload to a speedier system. When you encounter something where the 'bells and whistles' are wanted, you can enable the 'frills' as needed.

Enjoy the day, F.D.

Maybe you could try another ISP. I know when I use Mindspring I have long latencies, slow rates and timeouts. USWest performs much better for me, but the apparent connection speed is about the same (21-26Kb/s).

The way you could try this is to get someone you know over to your house and log in with their account, just to give it a try. I would never suggest the you get the password (and login name and DNS numbers) over the phone and log in yourself. That would be wrong.

Although the connections speeds are the same, Mindspring is much slower for me (from here) because they don't seem to be as "well connected" to the sites I most often use.

I also use a configurable prefetcher - by the time I'm ready to hit "next 10 messages" or "next page in search", it's already in my browser cache and it pops up in half a second.

SPSEIFERT

I ran across this article on a downloadable program that makes some tweaks to your system that may help you. A trial period before purchase is mentioned. Let us know if it improves things.
