Gary,it is very unusual that we talk about possible slowdown
on NT thread.
They had super quarter and for reasons not related to demand
they missed overblown expectation by hair.
From NT Q3 I do not see (confirm by JDSU) any slowdown in
carrier space.
At least for optics and packet routing-switching (core, edge and access).
There is no doubt that carriers will put more emphasis on how
to use to maximum existing infrastructure.
So, xDSL may be very , very hot as the " last mile", more likely last few hundred yards, from fiber .
LMDS is an another example. Europe love it.
Did you notice that Europe grew more for NT then US.
European carrier are more cash reach and they have been sitting to long doing nothing .
Being 18-24 months behind US, the sweetest spot for vendors will be in Europe.
Also, old technology like CS will do OK in Asia,Europe, they places were Lucent have almost no exposure. In US CS is falling sharp, unless you have migration solution.
Ascend ATM switchis were never designed for CS, TDM migration to packet, and they brought extra box in mid 1999, well to late.
Look at DT,FT,C&W cash position!!! Also they stocks are doing better then most US carriers.
