SP, [edited] when you say 'download speed' do you really mean 'connect speed'? Since you have a 56kbps modem, connect speed should be around 50000 bps. You see it by hovering your mouse pointer over the little monitor icons showing when you're connected.

PS: I don't know how much YOU know, so please tell me.

In general, I am against programs that supposedly speed up your internet surfing. They often just look ahead and open a site you MIGHT want to access. If they really worked, Microsoft and Netscape would incorporate them in their browsers. If you're CONNECTED at 28000 bps but have a modem capable of 56000, it may be your ISP or the modem setup.

To see if another, free, ISP is faster for you try free Juno or free Alta Vista. I have both and they connect at 50 kbps.
