Yes, there were something like 100 Congressmen involved in taking 'contributions' from the S&Ls. Don't have the exact numbers, but it was on the order of $ 250-500 B. The last Bush budget had $ 75 B in deficit spending due to the S&L payoff. It's hardly fiscally conservative to back the current regime that ups spending by $ 600 B per year after 8 years. That's around 50 percent higher than Bush's last budget, well above the economic growth. They could've at least tried to cut spending somewhere.

A.S., you automated shill-bot, several of us went over this with you very nicely and thoroughly, ad nauseum, awhile ago, including citing the FDIC's own website with chronology, pointing out the prior DEREGULATION ACT that was signed by Carter in 1980, brining to your attention the bipartisan support, including four current DEMOCRAT legislators, including Sen. Schumer (D-NY) who co-sponsored Garn-St Germain Act, etc., etc., etc.; and here you are starting all over from SCRATCH! Are you memory impaired, or did your endless loop tape cassette just get back to the beginning? You are as much an expert on the S&L crisis as I am an expert in producing a television mini-series. Wake up! You're playing to the same audience!
