Michigan phone calls anger Bush camp

By KATHY BARKS HOFFMAN, Associated Press

LANSING, Mich. (October 27, 2000 2:00 p.m. EDT nandotimes.com) -
The Bush campaign called "despicable" a series of taped phone calls that
Michigan residents are receiving that say George W. Bush breaks promises
and would harm Social Security.

In one call, Charlotte Cherry of Houston says that "Governor Bush has
accepted $1.3 million from corporate polluters and he's allowed them to keep
polluting while my kids suffer."

In another, Ann Friday of Arlington, Texas, says that her husband died after
neglect in a nursing home four years ago and that Bush has signed legislation
that has weakened rather than strengthened nursing home regulations.

In another call, actor Ed Asner says that "George W. Bush has a proposal
that would undermine Social Security, even scuttling current benefits."

Bush spokeswoman Karen Hughes said it's "despicable for the vice president"
to suggest that as governor Bush is responsible for the death of Friday's
husband.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize I needed your permission to post here. I thought this was a free sharing of ideas and comments. (Just kidding, of course)

I've been here on several occasions. Guess not enough for you to notice.
