Michigan Republicans Use Iacocca to Blast Gore

DETROIT (Reuters) - Lee Iacocca, the former Chrysler chairman who became a U.S. household name in the 1980s, will appear in Republican television ads in Michigan attacking Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore (news - web sites) as a threat to the state's jobs in the automotive industry.

``Hey, we're car people in Michigan,'' the straight-talking Iacocca says at the start of 30-second television ads that were scheduled to begin airing on Thursday.

``Mr. Gore writes, we need to raise gas taxes, and the gasoline engine is a threat to our future and we should scrap it. Al Gore may see the car as our enemy, but in Michigan, it's our jobs,'' said Iacocca, who co-wrote two best-selling books and whose name was floated as a possible presidential candidate in 1988....

Now all the polls agree, even the pro-Dem Reuters/MSNBC has Bush ahead:
