If you are familiar with the history of slavery, you must know that slavery was practiced by the Romans, the Greeks, the Celts, the Germanic tribes, throughout Europe, throughout the Middle East, it was a common practice throughout Africa, throughout the Americas, throughout Asia - I don't know about Oceania.

So to argue that Christianity causes slavery is ludicrous.

We must always remember the Quakers- and how they opposed slavery. The Quakers are often morally upstanding (relatively speaking) when many of their Christian bretheren are not. I have always thought this was because the Quaker is alone with his or her God- it is truly a very personal relationship- and as such is more along the lines of what you, and E and Cosmic have discussed in terms of atheists- namely that Quakers and Atheists (and possibly agnostics) spend a lot of time thinking about their own beliefs. The Quakers distrust listening to others- it is the responsibility of each Quaker to enter into his or her own direct relationship with God.
