I leave to our co-thread members to judge whether your use of "admissions" -- for just one emblem example -- was value-neutral, and did not imply that I had something to admit.

I gave up completely on the subtler issues, in our argument, and on the more expansive ones. I gave up discussing religion. Arguing with you has been a lot like trying to nail jello to a board.

Because I know what everyone means by it, and why they sometimes use it instead of "statement."

I didn't admit. Actually, I didn't acknowledge, either. I said, consistently with what I have always said.

The devil is (sometimes most obvious) in the detail.

I would certainly not have engaged in this exercise had realized its hopelessness.

I don't think you are obtuse. I think you write what you mean to.
