Actually, those officers were not responsible. There were scapegoats and later Gen. Short(?) had his record cleared.

There HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM with getting SIGINT processed and disseminated in a timely manner.

In recent times, such as the KAL 007 shootdown, we were able to obtain quick intercepts and ready translation that provided very quick info on how that tragedy transpired (of course, we'll never officially admit that the Soviets were gunning for one of our RC-135 Cobraball ELINT planes).

But this is going to be a tricky one for the brass to explain to congress. The fact that the Cole had more than enough fuel to make it to its destination, and the fact that the State Dept had shut down its operations in Yemen, are irrefutable evidence that force protection notices were either not conveyed, or were ignored.

But were this a Bush administration, some heads would quite likely be rolling by now...

Regards,

Ron
