DS: You could have read that on this board months ago as yours truly posted a number of articles alluding to this. But I am glad your instructor has confirmed the point. JFD

Can anyone please explain what differs XML from other welldefined ASCII file formats? I mean, anyone can write XML files, and anyone can read them. Nobody wants them because they are too complicated (other ASCII formats often do better, HTML is still advanced for some programmers), and XML based file formats are only good if they are well-specified and thereby independant on MSFT technology. How can a company be "ahead" on somebody else concerning reading and writing of ASCII? I mean, only IBM does EBCDIC?
