I agree, Steve. There is some common ground even though we regularly have people here with of degrees of belief.

If there is an area of dominant opinion it is that there can't be any absolute belief that is singly correct to the exclusion of others. I guess if I was to state myself dogmatically, that would be it.

The parameters for the conversation "about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" presumes that angels exist either relatively or absolutely, they dance, and they can or will congregate to do so on the heads of pins at least for the duration of the debate.

Clearly one of two broad categories of people congregate on this thread. The first category is those who support that the proposition SGBR is validly formed and within scope. The second category do show up but don't stay and they feel that the charter of the thread is too controversial or illogical or dissimilar to their world view as to be eligible for conversation under any circumstances.

They might try to participate for a while, but the question SGBR will be raised as sure as night follows day and it will be discussed and possibly agreed upon or disagreed upon the specific point, to some degree or another. But we agree it can be discussed.

The level of engagement rarely gets that elevated because the one relative truth that we all seem to accept is that religion isn't that important generally but only important personally. If that wasn't true for each of us then I don't see how any one could persist here.

I know I harp about groups and partake of some occasional flights of speculation, but I'd say that I never take anything I say too seriously and certainly consider that everything can be questioned (even my opinion or theories). That goes back to first principles: is it okay to question everything? This is the tenet, Steve. To be comfortable here, I'd think you have to accept that tenet is true or else you are on a mission. But THAT mission is a bleak mission of conversion.

Maybe all of us are on that mission or we wouldn't post at all.
