Tomato, since ctrl-alt-del brings up the 'close program' screen and you say that's how you get rid of it [the logo], there must be a hint what the file is called? Can you search for it, then remove or rename it?

PS: I sometimes get an alien MSN connection box without any provocation, i.e. I'm already connected and the conn. box is NOT the normal one. It hasn't happened often enough to go after it.

Which solution did you try? Have you tried the microsoft knowledgebase suggestions? There are several there that may resolve this issue.
