Ali, Re: Just a dumb question: are there _ANY_ SocketA
Athlon/Duron processors with 133/266 FSB?

Yes, 1.0 GHz, 1.13 GHz and 1.20 GHz (all with 133 MHZ DDR FSB) will be introduced on Monday. Apparently they will have a 10% price premium over the 100 MHz DDR FSB parts. Of course, these new boards also open new possibilities for overclockers.

All current Athlons and Durons run on a 200/100MHz connection to the chipset. As of Monday, Athlons will be able to connect at 200/100MHz and 266/133MHz, while Durons will be limited to 200/100MHz (this will increase the performance gulf between AMD's high end and low end while increasing their low end performance from even its strong lead over the competition's low end.

It's almost a certainty that you'll be able to clock that motherboard to 200/100MHz. Asus just wrote their press release badly when they left out mentioning that chipset connection speed, leaving the world to needless inferences over whether AMD760 was synchronous or not (it is).

And, of course, since the chipset has been (prolly) the limiting factor in overclocking, we should more or less soon see lots of examples of Durons using PC2100 anyway. ;)

*EDIT* I just noticed that while "Athlon", "Duron", and "chipset" are considered incorrectly spelled by SI, "prolly" (which is most certainly not even widespread slang) gets through the SI filters without question!
