You may want to take a look at TradeFreedom tradefreedom.com. They're a Canadian outfit based in Montreal. While you can trade in their office similar to SwiftTrade, you can trade from home as well. Take a look at it and let me know what you think of the quote fees and commission costs. You can reply to this message or PM me.

Now not only is TD Waterhouse US not accepting Canadian clients, they've given existing clients 30 days to transfer out or automatically have accts move to the Canadian version. Not a client myself but others are getting this:

We have been advised by the Canadian securities regulatory authorities that
we, as well as other US registered broker-dealers, must refrain from providing
any investment services to residents of Canada. Accordingly ... we will no
longer be able to meet your investing needs through TD Waterhouse in the
US.
