Paul,
Well said, hard to believe we are on the same page but we are.
Jim,

My vision will come true, an extraction of the parasitic symbiont, Rambus, will set Intel free in the next 6-9 months. Some will say that's a long time but at least you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately, Intels reputation with it's old partners will take a lot of good gestures to repair but dissing Ram-BS will help.

Make it three of us that agree on that one. Rambus seems to put a lot more emphasis on lawyering nowadays than on engineering excellence.

Tony

The i815E - which has been in full production since June - has already accomplished this - Intel's volume product - the Pentium III - is served very well by the PC133 SDRAM using the i815E - and ALL major motherboard manufacturers are using the i815E.

As for the Pentium 4, the DRDRAM requirement at launch will be OK since the ramp is just beginning. Sometime next year, the Brookdale will be available and Pentium 4 with SDRAM support - and hopefully DDR support - will insure a major success for the Pentium 4.

Re: 'Intels reputation with it's old partners will take a lot of good gestures to repair '

Most of Intel's partners - with the exception of Dell - have bent over backwards to blast and skewer Intel over the years - all on their own - for reasons that have nothing to do with Rambus.

Intel's reputation will remain what it has always been - an aggressive company with excellent technology that wants big profits - and that will always scare the crap out of the Compaqs and Gateways and IBMs.
