The ruling in the case you cited is beyond the pale. But don't believe that the reporter has any earthly idea whom would be appointed to the Supreme Court by any candidate.

The reporter said "been widely touted as a possible Supreme Court pick". Just "a possible" pick. And if the defendant is indeed executed in the interim, that possibility should become more remote.
