I guess we would need to define "driving." I agree that the Fed is powerless to create wealth, or to transform any industry. That was done through the confluence of a number of factors, not the least of which were the civilianization of military technologies and the nation's demographics. What the Fed did, IMHO, is to take a historic technological transformation and create a mania through massive fluidity infusions as a result of the Asian an Y2K "crises." The Asian situation was due to their own inability to keep up with chage, and the Y2K, well, we saw how serious that was.

Now they are overtightening, and we are all doing their penance.
