If the 820 launch had not been screwed up by Intel (not Rambus) the sales of the 820 would IMO been much higher.
The 820 is a good platform but it could have been much better.

The 840 has been a winner capturing 75% of the workstation market in two quarters. Of course, it did not have it performance reduced by Product marketing and it does not ship with an MTH.

We will have to see how well the P4 with RDRAM performs. As you know, it is the first processor designed to actually be able to use the bandwidth delivered by RDRAM.

Paul,<<<Customers want LOW PRICES and High PERFORMANCE - and RDRAM offered only HIGH PRICES with adequate performance>>>

You are wrong. There are customers who look only for:

1. The lowest cost regardless of performance.
2. The lowest Cost and highest performance.
3. The highest cost and the highest performance

And beleive it or not there are customers that look for the highest price regardless of performance.

In other words, we do not live only in a binery world. Intel understands this. That is why they articulated the segmentation strategy awhile back and I assume they are still following.

Intel wants to dominate in all market segments. No wonder Craig has not called you back <gggg>.

Mary
