Joe,

<It depends on Tbird's MHz limit in Austin. >

It doesn't. It is plain and simple - AMD has excess capacity and could use some sales NOW.

<It's encouraging that the specs were changed in anticipation of Tbirds up to 1.2 GHz from Austin. >

There is nothing out there even to remotely suggest that 1.2G Thunderbirds are coming from Austin. What info do you have to back this one up?

<I hope the bin splits from Austin are mostly > 1 GHz.>

Why? Sanders has been quite explicit that Austin is going to be almost completely Durons anytime now. Last Thunderbird wafer starts out of Austin are this or next quarter. Durons aren't expected to go to 1G until Q1 at which point there will be very few 1G Durons sold anyway. A

slow leisurely MHz ramp in Fab25 is quite sufficient since all that is expected out of Fab25 is low-end product. Fab25 Durons will have yield distribution quite comparable to Intel's Tulatins by the time Intel begins ramping Tulatin. That should be more than adequate for AMD to keep its low-end business going into H2 2001.

Chuck

So, Joe, what is the big advantage of all that copper in Dresden?
