EMERYVILLE, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Question and answer provider Ask Jeeves Inc. announced Wednesday that its chief financial officer, Thomas Low, has resigned.

Low, who also was senior vice president, joined the Emeryville, Calif.-based company in the financial role six months ago.

Low resigned to "pursue other interests," the company said in a press release. He will remain with the company through the end of the month.

The company, named after the prescient butler in the P.G. Wodehouse stories, announced that president Adam Klein, will take over Low's duties until a successor is named.

"The company is having trouble making a good fit," said Richard Petersen, analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston. "There a lot of ... competitors and the company's playing field is stacked," Petersen said.

Ask Jeeves offers a web-based question-and-answer search format that allows users to ask questions in plain language.

The stock (ASKJ: news, chart) traded off $1.38, or 11 percent, to close at $10.75.
