Important Harmonization Effort by Motorola, the latest

More harmonization at 5Ghz - this between OFDM Forum principal member Motorola and Radiata. Philips SC OFDM chipset was behind the original Motorola proposal.
Note the compatibility mode with 802.11a and backward compatibility with Bluetooth 1.0. This is key for Wi-LAN. This means that Bluetooth 2 (if BT SIG adopts 802.15.3 which appears likely) will be fully compatible with 802.11a.

This means a cleaner, planned 5Ghz band with even lower costs of the ASIC's from scaling to WLAN, BWAN and now WPAN. With Philips the chipset manufacturer and the design being a subset of 802.11a, royalties to Wi-LAN are not only likely, but unavoidable

Of course, they still have to vote on the various proposals, but this one looks promising.
