price for the mcdata product?

I understood the price for their 64 was significantly higher (like 4x) than BRCD's 32. That's been a problem for EMC directly, since their margins suport a lot of R&D, infrastructure and exec overhead. EMC is confronting that directly with NTAP's pricing, as well.

Hi Michael,

I've got tremendous respect for the management team at Brocade. They didn't just drop of the turnip truck. FC as we know it today is as dead as the dodo bird. Greg Reyes knows that. The new 10Gbps FC initiative intrigues me. They are headed the right direction. The key question that has to be asked about BRCD is whether or not they can retain a proprietary edge in the market. I don't have an answer to that yet. I wished I did, because I've been eyeing an investment in BRCD since last spring, but always have had a gnawing doubt in the back of my mind about how dominant a player BRCD can be in what I view as an increasingly GbE and 10GbE network environment. And that and a buck won't even buy you a cuppa joe.....

Kumar is right, FC, as presently configured, is dead. The question is, how will BRCD adapt?

I don't know if you lurk these threads:

but there are folks there who are vastly better able than I to answer your questions. :)

That's my story, and I'd love to change it....

Bye Bye

PS: No news on ILX Lightwave of late. This one seems to generating no buzz at Red Herring or IPOpros. Just a "me too" company, is probably all we got with this. Transmeta coming soon though. It'll be a good show. :)
