RE:"Bottom line: That was a bogus rumor. Willamette was beyond the tapout-delay stage by that point."

I agree, however the rumor may have just been late getting to me.
OTOH, it's still unclear just when the Willy taped out and when it hit first silicon. When do you think that was? It seems to be very uncertain.
Never the less, we're looking at Q1, 2001 availibilty of any decent quantity of P4 where as the boys from the Intel thread were looking for August.
Then again, it doesn't explain wide time differential between Saturn Vs first Silicon in January and Elmer "in-fab" in December or earlier comment...

I'm not sure what the importance is of all these posts about what the actual P4 delay was or was not, and who was right and who was lying. What is important is that P4 will soon be a reality. I think AMD needs to assume P4 will be here at 1.7 Ghz in Q1. 1.4 and 1.5 Ghz in Q4 looks like a non issue.

But, things just look too good for AMD right now. As was nicely pointed out (by Dale?), if Intel tries to ramp P4 too quickly before 0.13u, they will create a parts shortage that will play right into AMD's hands. I really like this way of looking at it. Not to mention that it looks like Mustang will out perform P4 for most, if not all, of next year.

However, I'm not yet convinced that AMD will be able to decrease power on the mobile Athlon enough necessary to compete against Intels excellent mobile product line. If they can, I would seriously not want to be an Intel shareholder.
