The famous ones were 1895ish and 1907.

The 1929 crash save was bobbled by Richard Whitney, the brother of a Morgan partner. Richard Whitney eventually became the president of the Exchange and went to Sing-Sing because of some indiscretions.

A million here, a million there, Richard figured on a rather large safety net. You and I should have such a cushion.
