I thought about just the one combo drive and ask about it. The rep said it makes copying another CD a little tough. He also did not recommend the combo drive.

Yes the DVD standards don't appear to be settled yet. I read an article on the subject. HP appears to be working with a different standard that is going to be released in the near future.

The other problem is reading a DVD on my laptop without buying another DVD-ROM. The CD will work on both. That became the prime reason for CD over DVD.
