i think the reader probably had something much more serious going on with his hard drive than this response would seem to indicate:

"As to your "problem," however, that's not a bug; it's a feature. Hard drives are supposed to continue to spin at a steady rate while your computer is active."

i don't mean to pick on the guy. i'm sure he is very knowledgeable. i've just started off reading a couple answers that were, well, questionable? <g>
