Ref < mirrored memory solution.(using 16MB when only 8MB is required by doubling up on every bit). Of course, this will be VERY expensive since they will (over time) replace nearly their entire installed base >

Boy is that an inelegant solution ! Mirroring doubles the cost, and does not perform Error Correction ! It just performs Error Detection, and so in the event of an L2 memory error, the defective bit will be read from the main memory.

However Mirroring is a quick band aid, and is probably the only choice available to Sun.
