I'm more than challenged enough in my new position at my new company. Like I've said, Novell treated me very well personally. I have no complaints about my experiences there. Here's the thing: Novell is fighting to not become totally irrelevant. I don't know that they're winning. Finally, Fred, I've explained at great length privately why our meeting did not happen as planned. I'm not about to open that up to public debate. The bottom line though is that that incident is totally meaningless now. I'm only hanging out here to shed some unbiased light on Novell until I forget enough details to make ME irrelevant. Won't take that long, I'm extraordinarily distracted.>> Appreciate the response. All I see is the Old Novell and their apologists "acting out" while they struggle to try to appear relevant. Behind this I see an inversion - a collapse of the old - but unless more gutsy folks step up to lovingly stand up for principals that can define new vision, direction and leadership I just see this old crowd continuing to battle and fortify, battle and fortify. Perhaps like you and others, we're all at a loss as to what they're trying to "battle and fortify" against. I have no interest in being a negative lightning rod, but if Frederick Smart is someone/something to "battle and fortify" against then I think these folks just need a lot more energy, risk, trust, light and love. You can have hundreds - if not thousands - of extremely bright, intelligent, creative, disciplined and purposeful individuals working, working, working, but if someone doesn't have the guts to ask these stupid, tough questions - ie. like "what am I really doing here?" and "where am I really going?" and "how could I create the future and change the world?" - then I'm afraid you have a culture/system that just "doesn't want to know." Bottom line - and I've thoughtfully tried to err on the side of not taking sides on this one - but quality and character of leadership is a function of the culture. Perhaps a complete 1-2 year accounting of who has left Novell and who has been promoted or hired to replace them could shed some light. All I know is that the ENERGY inside Novell has not only turned way down, it's darkened. When you have a situation like this it will only hasten the process of more folks like you taking a walk and moving on. But it will also raise the level of fear inside Novell, reducing the possibility for personal/collective opposition. No singe individual is irrelevant Kilo. I regard what you share on this board as proof of this, but there's a side to these folks that gets nasty and I believe that's why you are being careful with what you say and how you say it. Peace. GO!!
