True, I suppose. But if a divinity is indifferent to the individual, the divinity would also not know or care what, if anything, that individual worshipped, or what religion that individual follows, the whole matter becomes irrelevant, for any practical purpose. Having a God that doesn't know or care what I do or what happens to me is not materially different from having no God at all, except for the satisfaction of abstract curiosities.

I wanted to add to this idea.

It seems that if there was an intelligence, it would be reluctant to intervene unless there was a widespread pattern that needed to be adjusted. I suspect that if there was a Universal intelligence that it would be of this type. A gentle feedback mechanism. No big hammer blow on the flywheel, but a tap here and a tap there. Usually. Then you have the asteroid impacts.

Was this all part of a plan, or just a periodic checking of our pot to see if it needed a stir?!!! Yeah, it is easier to consider there is nothing. But it sure doesn't feel like nothing to me. Yet, it is a cold, cruel universe out there. Maybe I'm just whistling in the dark.
