LOL! mr. mark, you stole my joke.

(I was going to say: when the the melee which Jorj describes erupts, Andrew Golota - sitting in the front row - jumps up, shouts "I quit!" and runs full throttle toward the exit, leaving his puzzled wife sitting next to an empty seat, and trampling nuns, children, and small domestic animals in his path.)

;-)

Tyson at Lewis workout
By Scott Shaffer

A lot of strange things happen in New York City on Halloween. But if eyewitness reports are correct, today's occurrence at a Lennox Lewis sparring session was unusual even on a day when strange is the norm. Mike Tyson, who usually avoids the media like the plague, reportedly made a brief and incident-free appearance at heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis' public workout today in New York City. Tyson remained in the back of the crowd, which numbered about 200 people. He did not even attempt to approach the ring or exchange any conversation with Lewis. Few among the gathered media actually saw Tyson, who is one of the most recognizable people on the planet. However, several onlookers, including New York boxing fixture Johnny Bos, claimed to have spotted the former champion, along with a woman and two bodyguards. Tyson's manager, Shelly Finkel, has a nearby office. Lewis was holding the public workout in New York's Grand Central Station to promote his November 11 title defense against David Tua.

The fans got to see Lewis spar three rounds with local heavyweight Jameel McCline. Neither fighter went full speed during the sparring session, but Lewis finished the day off by landing a sharp combination and avoiding McCline's counter. McCline was able to sneak several jabs through Lewis' defense in the second. Check back later to read what Lewis had to say after the workout.

TIGER BLASTS ROY JONES

Undefeated WBO lightheavyweight champion Dariuz Michelczewski will make the 18th defense of his world title against Detroit's KaDy King (24-3) on December 16 in Essen, Germany. The champion said, "King is a good fighter. His style is similar to Mark Prince" (whom the Tiger beat in 1998). Also confirmed for the card is Regina Halmich. A defense by WBC cruiser champion Juan Carlos Gomez has been rumored.

Next year Michalczewski, 42-0 (35 KOs), is still hoping for a showdown against Roy Jones. "I can't believe Roy Jones is still running from me. He must understand that he is about to lose his credibility in the world of boxing altogether. Sometimes he talks about fighting at heavyweight, sometimes he speaks about going down in weight to fight the small Brit Calzaghe. I even heard he wants to fight Trinindad, the former welterweight champion. Jones should be ashamed to think about fighting guys as little as Trinidad and at the same time to avoid his biggest opponent: Me, the true, the linear light heavyweight world champion."

LPS5 note: AMEN, brother!!!!!!!!

It was also announced that Promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl has made a winner-take-all offer to Roy Jones to entice Jones to agree to a fight with Michalczewski, but the offer was turned down.

LPS5 note II: At least Golota got into the ring...
