Dear Yaacov: Actually its worse than that I believe. They can elect to pick up the stocks at the original basis or I believe one year after death price BUT they gotta pay inheritance taxes NOW on the current value. So, they do in fact HAVE to sell to pay their estate taxes unless he had life insurance or something to cover that. JDN

It is my understanding that USA is the only industrialized nation to tax capital gains. --- Hey, *I heard we were the only industrialized nation that HAS capital gains, Yaacov. You primarily invest in US stocks, yes? <g> -JCJ
