Follow-up to #4482....

I wrote If supply shortfalls are severe, as they appear to be at the moment, we should consider the possibility, if not the likelihood, that this fact alone could impact earnings nearly to the same degree as a crew cut on the demand side.

From the Boston Globe this morning boston.com (thanks to SundayTrader on the Yahoo board)

Perhaps the silver lining is that this shortage is factored in and the expected resurgence in the industry early in CY2001, when the supply logjam begins to be resolved, will soon be reflected in the SEM stock prices.

Since analysts have been demonstrated here and on other threads to often be late in their calls - downgrades when things seemingly couldn't get any worse and upgrades at cycle tops - perhaps their actions simply accentuate price movemements.

Not all investors listen to analysts directly. They get information filtered by and boosted by their brokers. This sort of ripple effect may further move prices.
