Hi Bob, b/c of the amount of posts recently, I ve inadvertently missed yours until I saw yours in the "cool post" sector. I don't mean to belittle this ML fund mgr, but I am most concerned if he relies on ALA as an informant. ML has its in house sell sider [his name doesn't ring a bell, so I presume he is not an ax] Granted that fund mgrs themselves also do DD, but even if ALA were correct [I thought common knowledge was that LU was the most aggressive one in terms of financing,] this would simply raise people's eyebrows with regard to the objectivity of the judgement. Maybe I am simply getting the wrong impression from your post. It seems that the mgr started dumping NT when s/he got wind of the [mis]information from ALA but sought verification after s/he was thru dumping. Or am I missing something in between [this is late for me, so maybe I am confusing myself :)?]

best, Bosco

There are two types of project financing: 1) Financing existing platforms. 2) Financing new platforms.

1) LU financing 5ESS so that USWEST sells second phone lines for dial up modems. Europeans telecom vendors financing POTS or 2G GSM all over the developing world.

2) Financing new platforms is akin to nurse those tiny plants that in a couple of years will be trees bearing fruits.

Now if ALA finances lots of ADSL deployments and ADSL dies out, then that does not augur well for ALA.

If NT ERICY invest ahead of demand of UMTS -because they know that operators are going to implement their networks to recover the money they spent on licences- this is good project financing.

Investing ahead of demand is the case of vendors spendign engineering money just to have the projcet scoep ready so that if the tenders come out they have the a head start.

Conclusion: you have to dig beyond the surface of those project financing issues.
