More and more top-level corporate security solutions do just this - if the communication process is initiated from within the corporate firewall, it allows traffic from the Internet back into the network. If the communication is initiated from an external source, it is automatically dropped. A very nice feature :)

Nice to see this small, SOHO-type solution follows the same principle.

I still believe in a personal firewall type product installed on your desktop. The best security is layered so that if the "bad guys" do (and they will) manage to by-pass one security device, there is another there to stop them.

In the corporate environment, the more layers affords you the ability (or opportunity) to detect the illegal access (more likely, you will detect their probing et al).

If you remember what police say about theives - they go after only those targets they "feel" are easy. If you are vigilant, they generally pass you by. The more hoops they have to jump through the quicker they will move on :)

Then again, some hackers just love a good challenge. So in that case, there must be a response. Of course, personally we can't do much but for companies...there's much to do :)
