With just seven days to go, DEMOCRATS might soon launch their traditional last minute scare tactics. Whether it is concocting bogus stories to frighten the elderly (as the Washington Post has reported is happening in Michigan 10/26/00) or misrepresenting the records of Republican candidates, this is the time when Democrats do everything they can to stop Republican momentum. We can expect these final seven days to be a hard fought battle of ideas and issues, that is why we must get out the vote. ----------------------------------------------------------- GOVERNOR BUSH AND THE GOP TAKING THE LEAD.... As of today, GEORGE W. BUSH LEADS in most polls, including a 7 point lead in the latest Gallup Poll, and the battle for Congress is very, very close. ----------------------------------------------------------- SOME MORE HUMOR FROM LENO AND LETTERMAN... "Joe Lieberman is running for vice president under Gore. But he is also still running for senator in Connecticut. Isn't that embarrassing - three weeks until the election and your number-two guy is still undecided!" - Jay Leno "If you watched the debate the other night you saw Al Gore get real close to Bush, kind of invaded his space. I hear George W. was so nervous about this because he thought Gore was going to kiss him." - David Letterman THE NEWS GETS BETTER! When he's not taking credit for inventing it, Al Gore probably wishes the Internet would go away. Democrats had a built-in advantage when ABC, CBS and NBC controlled most Americans' diet of news. Those days are going fast. And because the Internet is uncontrolled (and uncontrollable), all that counts is the quality of information in a free marketplace of ideas. That means conservatives hold the high cards. Surprised? I'm not. If it's a battle of ideas, we'll win.
