Re: Cas 2 PC133 is faster than Cas 2.5 PC2100 DDR in some office benchmarks. How many people expected this? I didn't...

Cirrus, that could be translated roughly as follows:

[memory-with-lower-latency-and-1/2-the-bandwidth] is faster than [memory-with-higher-latency-and-lots-of-bandwidth] <by an extremely small amount> in some [benchmarks-where-memory-bandwidth-is-not-the-bottleneck] <on an evaluation motherboard with immature drivers>.

Doesn't sound all that surprising anymore does it?

I reiterate: Just as you're not surprised to see ZERO improvement when going from 1 GHz to 1.2GHz in Quake 3 @ 1600 x 1200 on a Riva TNT, and furthermore don't view this as a processor shortcoming, you need to keep in mind that going to DDR and a faster FSB speeds up *some* components of a system. Benchmarks (applications, whatever) will only show benefit to the extent that memory/FSB was the bottleneck

Expecting 'Everything will get X% faster' is just wrong. [not to imply *you* were in that camp].

Doug

<With P4 and Mustang just around the corner people shouldn't expect the P4 to suck in ALL benchmarks and for Mustang to SMOTHER the P4 in ALL benchmarks. >

I don;t know about smothering but I can see Mustang dominating quite well unless Intel pulls of 1.6G in which case it can be a closer fight - at least on paper .....

Agreed. That was one thing that I haven't seen anyone comment about earlier. (May be someone did but I didn't remember seeing it.)

By the way, your point was well taken except that I was somewhat surprised that those results were not good enough for folks especially given the platform just debuted today!
