goutama, Ah! That's a much better interpretation of that 'limited upgrade' line.

They really mean 'limited configuration enhancement/changes' under this interp.

I was concerned there was something odd about the motherboards used that would limit future, post-sale upgrades by the user...

I guess that makes little sense, in retrospect.

goutama

I guess the lack of W2k may have something to do with some problems that testers encountered with the ATA-100 drivers. It shouldn't be the problem with motherboards that have Via southbridge.

ML:supply healthy for AMD’s MP,even for newly released; demand is good, will sell out of both low and high end in Q4
Excerpts from ML 10/30/00
MPU Update:
• After several weeks of small declines in the grey market, prices for Intel (INTC; $44.06; B-2-2-7) products fell as much as 15% since
last week. We saw the greatest declines for the higher clocked products - 850-933MHz. We believe that anticipation for price cuts is
driving these declines. We expect Intel to cut listed prices in the upcoming weeks to narrow the large premium of its products over
Advanced Micro Devices’(AMD; $20.19; C-2-1-9); Intel’s list prices are currently at an average 176% premium over comparable
AMD products.
• Most prices for AMD’s high and low end products declined between 2-6% since last week. The price change is more moderate
compared to the trend in past few weeks, when AMD cut prices and released new products. We believe that supply is healthy for
AMD’s processors, even for newly released products. Our checks indicate that demand is also good and the company will again sell
out of both low and high end products for the fourth quarter.
