Qualcomm (QCOM-$75-O) CDMA Update; Reiterate Outperform Louis Gerhardy

The recent CDMA conference highlighted the increased role of QCOM's wireless CDMA technology in next generation wireless networks.
We believe QCOM is poised for the 1X product cycle. The implementation plans of wireless service providers with 1X are stronger than we expected.
We believe QCOM has a comprehensive semiconductor roadmap, including new 1X products and WCDMA efforts.
We reiterate our Outperform rating and 12-month price target of $100. QCOM will report F4Q00 earnings on 11/2. We look for EPS of $0.23.

Ben,

<< This meshes with Seybold's prediction at Sarasota conference that qveauriche attended >>

FWIW: Rumors aboundeth and Andrew Seybold explores them. I caution that these are rumors, and Andrew is sometimes in the right church, but wrong pew, and sometimes not even in the right church.

>> The Wireless Roadmap: A Fork In The Road

October 2000
Andrew Seybold

Excerpt:

There are strong rumors that AT&T Wireless is about to make an announcement that will impact all wireless service operators in the U.S., and many in the rest of the world. If these rumors are true - we are hearing them from many sources - the anticipated announcement will be made in a matter of days if not weeks.

<snip>

As always, the final decisions will not necessarily be based on a technological assessment, but rather on internal politics and the anticipated effects on stock prices.

<snip again>

Qualcomm’s stock would take a hit for a few months, but hopefully Wall Street would come to understand that the 3G end game is CDMA. The folks at Qualcomm will still be smiling. They might miss out on royalty revenue in the short term, but Qualcomm will emerge a winner. <<
