I don't believe you queried me previously about the NAACP ad. In any event, I have now seen the ad about three times, so I know what you're talking about. The NAACP, to my knowledge, acted entirely on its own in producing this ad. The ad, to my knowledge, took Clinton-Gore by surprise as much as it did Bush-Cheney. Hence, the NAACP cannot in any sense be described as a "political machine for Clinton-Gore." It is an independent group making a heart-felt statement. The fact that the NAACP chose to base an ad on the dragging murder shows, to me, the extent to which either Gore or Bush must work to improve race relations in this country.
