Two more foundries eye $2.2B GaAs market

techweb.com

Both are based in Hsinchu, Taiwan. One of the two is Global Communication Technology Co., which according to EBN "is owned by Kopin Corp., Taunton, Mass., Taiwan's Via Technologies Inc., First International Computer Inc., and the Central Investment Co. of Taiwan's Nationalist Party."

[thanks to "thecalculator" of the Yahoo! KOPN thread]

The president of GCT is R. T. Huang.

This may be a recent investment. Kopin's SEC filings cover the majority interest in Kowon and the minority interests in Kendin Semiconductor and GMT Microelectronics, but I can find no reference to GCT. I have not heard of it before now. I don't think so, anyway: "Global Communication Technology" is one of those names that sounds vaguely familiar.
