The drop off may have been fund related but also a typical reaction to pre earnings run-up. A tough quarter for Maxtor, but remember a company that learns to survive on lean margins can have explosive earnings potential once the cycle swings in their favor. Look at AMD last year, hardware companies have high fixed costs but for a lean company, once earnings exceed breakeven, small increases in revenue can drive huge profit growth. Maxtor has a lot of work ahead of it, a successful merger takes time and good management. But we're moving into the seasonally strongest quarter and I imagine within a q or two, merger-related advantages will be starting to really juice up the fundamentals. Again, anywhere under 10 dollars, IMHO Maxtor is both an excellent value and speculative play. We could trade in the 7.50-10 dollar range for while before the analysts/big money catch on, so the key is to get in early, be patient, very patient, and wait for the big pop. You know it's coming.
