After denouncing his diatribe, you go on to post a very flattering bio of the man. I wonder if you know your own mind!

His writings are informed by a passion for Truth, which developed from the psychic agony of spending many years on the inside stage of a huge and monstrous lie. If this passion was the least bit contrived it might be thought suspect, but the sincerity and sensitivity of his anger is ever evident in his relentless scholarship, and his unceasing opposition to the demeaning and the ridiculous.

You say that his writings reflect British cultural arrogance. Do you mean in style or in content? The phrase itself seems rather diaphanous and of doubtful meaning: Certainly, it is difficult to understand what passes for cultural arrogance in your mind. One does assume you to hold cultural biases, certainly, so perhaps you are projecting some of your own culture, n'est-ce pas?.

Excellent bio link, though.

(Oh, BTW, if one is looking for anti-catholic propaganda, as you put it, one need look no further than the Catholic Ency. Its transparent dishonesty and dissimulation condemns it before mankind.)
