Barney, Perhaps I am a bit harsh on drunks because of what I learned first hand. I have seen many of them pretend to be remorseful in order to get help, including money, to buy more booze. It is very difficult to determine what the truth is in a case like this, and I would hesitate to give any solid advice. Although it may sound cruel, leave your friend to his own devices for awhile, and see which way he goes. Until he seeks the proper help to get, and remain, sober,(such as AA) it is hard to tell what he may do, and what his intentions are.

Barnabus - Consider locating the closest Salvation Army Recovery Center. This man needs protection, to be bathed in God's Love, hot nourishing meals and counseling by Mature Soldiers of our Lord as he works his recovery. Please do not delay. May God give you His wisdom and strength as you work through this with your friend.
